Lagos, Nigeria: February 02, 2011—As the Itsekiri people of Nigeria gather to mark the Itsekiri Cultural Renaissance, the second edition of the Itsekiri World Cultural Festival, leading telecoms operator, Airtel Nigeria has thrown its weight behind the celebrations.
Airtel will join other leading organizations and eminent citizens to felicitate with the Itsekiri people on their day come Saturday, February 04, 2012.
Speaking on the company’s involvement in the festival, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of Airtel Nigeria, Deepak Srivastava said Airtel is passionate about identifying with the cultures of the local communities in which the company operates.
He said Airtel’s support for the people of Itsekiri and indeed the good people of Delta State is an indication of its passion and commitment to bonding with the people in order to build a lasting relationship which goes beyond offering telecommunications services.
Srivastava restated Airtel’s commitment to becoming the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigeria, adding that understanding the culture and traditions of the people is critical in the realization of this vision.
The Chief Operating Officer also commended the organizers of the festival for planning a great cultural event that will not only place the Itsekiri people on the global culture map but also showcase the unique Nigerian culture to the entire world.
The event is expected to take place at the palace of the Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse 11 (CON) who is also the chief host.
Chief Guest of Honour for the occasion is the Minister of Culture and Tourism, High Chief Edem Duke while the Special Guest of Honour is Ogbueshi Uche Okpuno. Other prominent personalities expected that the event include the speaker of the Delta state House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, Chief Major Gen. O.A Obada (Rtd.), Chief Major Gen. Paul Omo (Rtd.), former Minister of police affairs, Alaowei boderick Bozimo, the former acting MD, NDDC, Pastor Power Ziakede Aginighan, and Ojeoye Oritsema, Eyewuma.
