Up to 10 participants will have them funded
Here's a chance to put into action those philanthropic ideas you've always harbored. The Cannes Lions are teaming up with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in pursuit of communications ideas that could help change the world. Up to 10 participants will be awarded $100,000 for the development of their ideas, with successful projects then having the chance to apply for additional funding of up to $1 million to bring their ideas to fruition.
Any individual, team, agency or company is invited to submit a communications idea “simply expressed on just two pages” based on the challenge issued through the foundation’s Grand Challenges Explorations program. The concept has to be described on two sides of A4 paper between now and May 15. In the summer, all the ideas will be judged anonymously on their merit. The jury includes theCannes Chimera, the Grand Prix Winners from Cannes Lions 2011, members of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s review board, and a small group of other experts.
Cannes Lions will fly the finalists and their Cannes Chimera mentors to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation campus in Seattle. After those Cannes Grand Prix winners work with the finalists, the ideas can then be resubmitted to the foundation with a chance to win up to $1 million to put them into practice. The originators of the ideas will be invited back to the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity in 2013 to show their ideas and the impact they had.
