Facebook is rolling out its own app centre for the iOS, Android and browser-based platforms.
The centre aims to grow mobile apps that integrate with Facebook. It will use social data to select the best apps to show users and display information on the app including user ratings, number of downloads and screenshots of the app.
When a user selects an app, the centre will redirect them to the Apple App store or Google Play store. Although the site will not take a fee for redirecting users to the other stores, developers will also be able to create browser-based paid-for apps for the social network with Facebook taking a 30% cut of sales.
“For the over 900 million people that use Facebook, the App Center will become the new, central place to find great apps,” says Facebook software engineer Aaron Brady.
Access to the app centre for developers is expected to open up in May. No public release date has been confirmed.
