Dubai’s Al-Futtaim Motors has said that more than 4,000 Toyota Fortuner cars in the UAE were being recalled for service checks after the Japanese auto maker said some models made between 2006 and 2008 might need minor adjustment to the rear propeller shaft.
“Following communication with Toyota Motor Corporation, we have begun a service campaign on 4109 units of 2006 - 2008 year model Fortuner vehicles,” Simon Frith, managing director of Al-Futtaim Motors, said in a statement.
“Toyota Motor Corporation has informed us that in some of these vehicles the rear propeller shaft installation will require inspection and may require minor adjustment to ensure optimal performance.
“In the interests of delivering the highest standards of Toyota product quality and customer care, we have begun contacting our customers directly for an appointment at our service centers,” it added.Al-Futtaim Motors urged any owners of Fortuner vehicles made between 2006 and 2008 to contact their customer care team on 04-2066002.
The recall is the latest in a reputation-damaging series that began in the autumn of 2009. Toyota has since recalled millions of vehicles worldwide, mostly for defects related to unintended acceleration.
