Nike has struck a sponsorship deal with Rory McIlroy that sees the world number one golfer become one of the highest paid sports stars in the world.
Although exact details of the sponsorship are not due to be been disclosed, widespread reports suggest that the deal is worth between $200m - $250m over 10 years. If the latter figure is confirmed, it would mark the highest endorsement deal ever negotiated in golf.
The deal was announced in Abu Dhabi at a media conference ahead of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
Nike has had a long-standing partnership with Tiger Woods for the last 16 years. This latest endorsement deal with 23-year old McIlroy, however, will trump that in terms of figures.
McIlroy has previously had endorsement deals with Oakley, Jumeirah, Santander, Audemars Piguet and Titliest
