IAA plans Ad Industry Africa Conference for 2014
Focus on the rise of the African advertising Market
Cannes, June 21st 2013 - The International Advertising Association (IAA) Board of Directors confirmed plans to host a new conference in 2014 dedicated to advertising and marketing communication developments in the African continent.
In making the announcement, IAA Chairman and World President Faris Abouhamad stated "At both a local and global level, the IAA has extensive capabilities with meaningful and successful international industry events. The IAA's membership in Africa is showing signs of accelerating growth in many countries, including Cameroon, Ghana, and Nigeria, and our new regional VP team is actively developing other markets from North to South! And so it is a natural development for the IAA to establish a gold-standard conference to focus exclusively on ad industry trends, insights and future developments taking place in Africa."
Saad El Zein, the IAA Vice President of Middle East Africa, reiterated that "Due to recent global challenges we've directed our focus on regions with higher growth and potential, and we believe that Africa is 'the' destination for such developments. In accordance with our association's mission, our members' needs, and our belief in the market's potential, the IAA will pave the way and provide insights into Africa and its future. Clearly, holding the 2014 conference here is a very logical and strategic decision.
Previous IAA events in Africa included the 27th IAA World Congress held in Durban in 1980, The IAA's Africa Summit held in Sun City in 1993, and the IAA Africa Forum held in Kenya in 1997.
Norkor Duah,the newly appointed IAA Vice President Development Africa commented, "This is the IAA's time to reaffirm its industry leadership position among Africa's advertising community. There is a clear need for marketers to understand our markets, our consumers and our potential. So it is a natural next step for us to take this initiative and engage with our industry."
