Apple has stated that it is “actively investigating” the alleged leak of more than 100 nude celebrity photographs of some of the world’s most famous female stars including Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence and pop singer Rihanna.
In one of the largest breaches of Apple’s security systems, currently under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the US, the leak is understood to have come from a corruption in Apple’s the 'Find My iPhone' function in its iCloud service that allowed a hacker revealing himself at Tristan to access images of celebrities held on the platform and publish them on the 4chan website.
Other alleged celebrity victims have been reported to be actress Kirsten Dunst, Winona Ryder and television host Cat Deeley.
A spokesperson for Lawrence called the action a “flagrant violation of privacy” adding that the authorities had been contacted about the issue and that anyone who posted the stolen images would be prosecuted.
Posting on her Twitter page, US actress and singer Mary E. Winstead said: “To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves.
“Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked.”
However the US singer Victoria justice has already branded supposed nude photos of herself released “fake”.
Apple launched the iCloud service in 2011.
I'm using AVG protection for a number of years, I recommend this Anti-virus to everyone.
