At the Unveiling of activities for Lagos PR fest 2024 held in Lagos on Thursday April 4th 2024 .
It is my pleasure to welcome the members of the fourth estate of the realm to this press parley.
I want to specially appreciate you for honoring our invitation.
We are here today to unveil a project that would put our state and nation on the global map.
Over the years, as a precursor to our annual conference and AGM, we hold what is normally termed the Lagos PR Week, which encompasses activities like school visits to mentor students of communication in tertiary schools in Lagos on what Public Relations entails. We also hold game sessions, etc.
As change is constant in life and considering the need to be a solution provider to government at all levels and the private sector in times of economic challenges such as now, we dug deep into our professional arsenal and came up with effective tools that can be used to revive our economic fortunes.
Enter Lagos PR Fest. Lagos PR Fest is about using our unique stories to promote our collective heritage. Public Relations is about telling stories. It’s about managing reputation.
We believe that Lagos PR Fest will give us the platform to bring together all stakeholders involved in telling the stories of Lagos and Nigeria.
According to data from Statista, in 2022, the total contribution of travel and tourism to the global gross domestic product (GDP) was 23 percent lower than in 2019, the year prior to the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Overall, the contribution of travel and tourism to the global GDP amounted to 7.7 trillion U.S. dollars in 2022. Many African countries depend on resources from tourism.
It’s time to turn the page for Nigeria. Tourism can only thrive in countries that have successfully told their stories using different PR tools. And that’s where we come in. Lagos PR Fest will liaise with different stakeholders to ensure that our state and country become the destination of choice.
The theme for this first edition is Communication and Culture: Reawakening Our Unique Heritage.
In the run-up to the AGM and Conference, we will have cultural activations, visits to historical sites in Lagos, etc. The activities for the Fest will climax with a Communication Lecture and AGM.
Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seat belts.
We are on a roll.
