inDrive revolutionizes ride-hailing in Africa, attains users preferred mobility choice status

·       inDrive shares ingenious innovation that drives revolution and users' choice at Lagos Startup Week 2024

inDrive, the globally recognized mobility and urban services platform, has reinforced its commitment towards passengers’ comfort and safety in Nigeria while promising to ensure that drivers on its platform continue to enjoy training support, rewards, and increased earnings.

This was revealed at the 2024 Lagos Startup Week by Dimeji Timothy, Senior Business Development Representative, inDrive during a fire chat session with Daniel Adeyemi, Managing Editor, Benjamin Dada, on the theme: inDrive: Revolutionizing Ride-Hailing in Africa and Emerging as the Preferred Mobility Choice, where he shared more insights into inDrive's journey, its impact on the Nigerian transportation sector, and the strategies in place to further enhance the company's services and reach.

Speaking during the fire chat session on the efforts made to revolutionize ride-hailing in Nigeria, and the journey to becoming the people’s mobility choice, Timothy said that inDrive has put measures in place to ensure that both passengers and drivers get the best out of the platform.

Timothy revealed that inDrive has doubled down its efforts to provide necessary security and safety features as well as education to users on the application and has worked assiduously to ensure its drivers enjoy increased earnings on its platform.

Fielding questions on security from Adeyemi, Timothy said, “What we did regarding security was to educate general users about the security features because we realized that many people did not know about these features. One of the features is the shared trip. Passengers and drivers can share trip progress with their trusted people. When you share your trip the possibility of your security and safety to compromise is minimal.”

The second safety feature that users can also take advantage of is the emergency contact numbers in case of an incident such as an accident. “We have a safety feature that does not exist anywhere else in the industry,” Timothy stated, adding that “inDrive allows passengers and drivers to have at least 5 mobile numbers of your close friends, doctor, and your family members in case of an accident. At this moment, we reach out to your doctor and any relevant person you submitted his or her application to. This is an ingenious safety precaution and no ride-hailing organisation has it but us.”

Speaking of efforts designed to help drivers increase their earnings, the Senior Business Development Representative, inDrive stated that improvement on the supply end of the company has boosted drivers’ profitability.

Supply is an important end of the ride-hailing business, he said. Last year, we grew tremendously on the demand end and we saw that we need to match that energy on the supply end.

According to him, “At the start of the Q1, we had a roundtable conversation with stakeholders from drivers, driver unions to the Ministry of Transportation.  With the feedback, we implemented new initiatives through these feedbacks. For example, inDrive offers the lowest commission.,” he added.

“This is one of the things we did to help boost our supply end.  Our drivers have started enjoying an increase in their earnings because of the low commission and commission is an operational cost and if you can reduce the operational cost, you can increase profit.  That is what we have done for them.”

Another initiative that has enhanced drivers' increased earnings is the driver's freedom to choose a trip. Timothy during the session mentioned that inDrive is a flexible organization that puts people first in all its decision-making.

The freedom to choose trip initiative has bolstered drivers’ earnings because they have the freedom to choose trips they want and that helps them increase profitability because some trips could result in a loss.

As part of the inDrive mission to reward, motivate, and incentivize its drivers, a program tagged Do X Get Y (DXGY) was launched to reward drivers who will go the extra mile to earn some rewards. Initial prizes which were fuel vouchers have moved to phones and microwaves and now two lucky drivers have been presented with 2 brand new vehicles.

It is worth noting that inDrive’s effort to revolutionize the ride-hailing industry truly stands the brand out, giving it an edge over players in the same market and making it a people’s favorite. With its unique model, inDrive has remained a forerunner in people-first focused transportation services, revolutionizing traditional ride-hailing services. inDrive is among the two most downloaded apps in two consecutive mobility companies worldwide. It currently provides coverage and reaches more than 16 cities in Nigeria. The list of cities includes Lagos, Benin City, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Jos, Enugu, and Owerri, among others.
